breastfeeding

anyone watch 20/20 tonight? please go and watch this piece...

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=6551439&page=1

I am an advocate of breastfeeding. I nursed my son until 10 1/2 months. I weaned because he had teeth and repeatedly bit me. and wouldn't stop.

I nursed my daughter until 11 months. it was recommended by my OB because I had an ectopic pregnancy. I would have continued nursing her but I knew it wouldn't have been much longer.

please come back and comment after watching the news feed and reading the story.

whatever works for both mother and child is fine. of course i think you need to teach your child to self-soothe at times and to learn to deal with frustrations, but breastfeeding is such a natural act. when people think it's a sexual thing or it's wrong because a child is no longer a newborn or young infant, then there's something wrong with that mindset. we drink cow's milk freely- why not mother's milk? would it matter if a mother pumped and gave her children her milk in a cup? it's nutrition that's built for humans. we're not biologically built to drink another animal's milk, but we still do. that should be the strange concept, not breastfeeding.
thanks for posting this video. it was interesting.
avery nursed for 13 months, and i stopped because i was pregnant and just exhausted. i hope oliver nurses for as long as he'd like.

I agree somewhat to breastfeeding for as long as the child shows interest, but who am I to tell someone else what age to wean there child. I nursed my oldest for 16 months, my middle child for 10 months, and my last for 18 months. But my sister still nursed her daughter till she was 2 1/2. I guess as long as both mother and child are happy, whats the harm.
